Hugh Paton died from wounds on 20th November, 1914, after having been brought back to the United Kingdom but as yet, there is no information, as to when and where he was wounded. At the beginning of the war the 2nd Scots Guards were part of 20 Brigade, 7th Division that had arrived on the Western Front in October, 1914 and had been involved in the fighting associated with the First Battle of Ypres.
